MJF. Ln. DR. J. LAKSHMANAN the Chairman and Medical Director who heads ARAVIND SAI EYE HOSPITAL (A.S.E.H), has 27 years of Post Graduate experience in Ophthalmology. He is a Proud Alumni of Aravind Eye Hospital, Madurai (1988- 1993). Later, he headed the Ophthalmic Department in a Multi Speciality hospital in Malapuram, Kerala for four years. In April 1997 on Tamil New Year day, ASEH was founded by him. He has to his credit 35000 IOL surgeries, Two lakh Refractions and has examined around 3 lakhs out patients.

MJF. Ln. Dr. J. Lakshmanan is a Life member of Indian Medical Association IMA (Tambaram Branch), Tamilnadu Ophthalmic Association (TNOA) and All India Ophthalmic Society (AIOS). Because of his interest in community service, he was instrumental in starting the Lions Club of Pammal and initially was the Charter President of Lions Club of Pammal. He later held the posts of Dist. Chairperson – Sight First, Spectacle Distribution and Eye donation and Zone Chairperson etc., in Lions Clubs international Dist 324 A6 since 2001.

To arouse awareness about the diseases of the Eye, their Curability and also about Eye Donation, MJF. Ln. Dr. J. Lakshmanan has reached thousands of people indirectly by Live Question and Answer programme through many Tamil TV Channels i.e., Pothigai TV, Raj TV, Raj Digital Plus, Jaya TV, and Jaya Plus.

MJF. Ln. SHYAMALA LAKSHMANAN who is the Managing Director of the hospital, is a Postgraduate Diploma holder in Hospital Administration, who also has undergone a management training course in LAICO- Lions Aravind Institute of Community Ophthamology, Aravind Eye Hospital, Madurai. The systematic growth under the administrative guidance of Shyamala Lakshmanan, by leading a team of 25 dedicated ASEH staff, enabled the hospital to acquire its present status.

A.S.E.H. was started in April 1997 in the annexe of Meenakshi Nursing Home, Pammal.

From November 1998, the hospital functioned in a rented building (which contained a spacious Operation Theatre, an Optical Division, an In Patient Room, and Out Patient department etc.) in Krishna Nagar, Pammal.

In November 2001, the hospital moved in to its own spacious building of 6000 Sq.ft. at a cost of 1 crore and has now established itself as a pioneer institution in the last Ten years.

Since 1997, the hospital has been rendering yeoman services in the field of Ophthalmology and today people from far and near make use of the valuable services, rendered by the institution.

Approximately 1000 Surgeries are being done every year in the present own building. Infrastructure has been improved very well with a large operation theatre and IOL post operative patients are lodged in 5 convenient IP rooms which are Air-Conditioned.

There is a provision for day care also, where in, the patient is discharged with in one hour after surgery. A well – equipped Optical Section, Contact Lens Center, Lab, Pharmacy etc., are attached to the hospital.

A small Maruthi Eeco Van and a Tempo Traveller (The tempo traveller was donated to the hospital by Indian Oil Corporation to cater to the services of transporting the patients) are used as Ambulance for transporting the patients.

The Hospital is presently staffed with Twenty staff (2 Refractionist, 3 Theater Assistants, 4 – Semi Skilled Staff members, 3-Accountants, 1-P.R.O, 2-Receptionists) under the leadership of the Chairman and Medial Director MJF.Ln. Dr. J. Lakshmanan, who is ably assisted by Medical Officers i.e. Dr.Sreeja in the surgeries . The Retina service is attended by Dr.Ramya (Retinal Surgeon).

MANAGING DIRECTOR :

The Administrative affairs are taken care by MJF.Ln. Shyamala Lakshmanan, who is the Managing Director , Who has got a MBA in(Health care & Hospital Management).

STAFF PROFILE :
Two duely qualifed Ophthalimic assistants in the OPD section, highly experienced theatre assistants, the house keeping is ably and very efficiently maintained by two staff members. The hospital is very fortunate to have such staff members who are totally committed to the services of the Hospital in eradicating the curable blindness, who really work round the clock for this noble cause.

The Jansar Vision Charitable Trust (JVCT)

The community wing of ASEH, was started with MJF. Ln. Dr. J. Lakshmanan as the Managing Trustee in 2002. The JVCT was recognized by the District Blindness Control society (DBCS) of Kanchipuram District initially and then by the Thiruvallur district also. It conducts 15 Eye Camps per month and around 65 Free IOL surgeries per month. This phenomenal growth in community Ophthalmology in eradicating the curable blindness by the trust associated with the hospital, is largely due to a dedicated team of eye doctors and staff under the dynamic leadership of MJF. Ln. Dr. J. Lakshmanan.
